ROLES & DESCRIPTIONS

TERM LENGTH
We prefer a commitment of 12 months, although shorter commitment lengths will be considered! 

We encourage folks of all gender, romantic, sexual orientations, class, abilities, immigration status, religious and spiritual affiliations, racial and ethnic backgrounds to apply. 

OUTDOOR MEETUP HOSTS

Responsibilities:

  • Liaise with instructors to design and host outdoor meetup events for Queer Crush.

  • Maintain outdoor meetup schedule on event calendar.

  • Create event info on social media (e.g. direct posts in QC Facebook group and send info to our Social Media Manager for Instagram).

  • Complete a short written summary after event (template available).

  • Read summary of notes after monthly QC leadership meeting.

  • (As needed): Maintain asynchronous communication with QC leadership via Slack.

  • (As needed): Meet with QC leadership for 10-15 min video calls for responsibilities listed above.

 

Preferred Qualifications (not mandatory):

  • Current Single Pitch Instructor Guide independently or through an organization

  • Wilderness First Aid

  • CPR trained

 

Time commitment: At least 3 outdoor meetups in 2022

GYM CAPTAINS (LOCATIONS IN APPLICATION FORM)

Responsibilities

  • Host one indoor climbing meetup once a month

  • Facilitate and maintain a safe and inclusive space for attendees.

  • Maintain a positive relationship with gym manager.

  • Publish and maintain event schedules on Google Calendar and Facebook

  • Email a short written summary after each event (template available).

  • Attend or read summary of notes after monthly QC leadership meeting.

  • (As needed): Maintain asynchronous communication with QC leadership via Slack.

  • (As needed): Meet with QC leadership for short video calls for responsibilities listed above.

Preferred Experience

  • Experience with hosting groups or coordinating events.

  • Experience with building queer community and or anti-oppression work across intersections such as race, class, ability, immigration status.

  • Experience with engaging communities that are local to the gym areas.  

  • Ability to call-in self and others when an opportunity for allyship emerges. 

 

Monthly time commitment: Approximately 5 hours if hosting once a month.

ADVOCATE, SOCIAL MEDIA & CONTENT CREATION

Responsibilities

  • Create accessible* content for Instagram and Facebook 

  • Publish up-to-date information about Queer Crush events and open leadership roles

  • Create cohesive graphics/content for social media posts & stories 1-2 times a week

  • Maintain social media calendar and schedule posts

  • Assist with captions, hashtags, and engagement

  • Triage questions from attendees and partners

  • Keep up with monthly QC leadership meeting

*QC can provide an overview of creating accessibility in social media content

Preferred Experience

  • Creative experience (i.e. graphic design, marketing, writing, visual arts)

  • Experience with social media management

Time commitment: 1-3 hours per week

ADVOCATE, RECRUITMENT & ONBOARDING

Responsibilities

  • Recruit for backfill Queer Crush leadership on an as-needed basis throughout 2023. 

  • Onboard new captains in 2023 by guiding them through orientation materials. 

  • Complete Fall recruiting for 2024 roles.

  • Ensure searches are fairly advertised and broadly shared before positions are filled.

  • Attend or read summary of notes after monthly QC leadership meeting.

  • (As needed): Maintain asynchronous communication with QC leadership via Slack.

  • (As needed): Meet with QC leadership for 10-15 min video calls if required for responsibilities listed above. 

Preferred Experience

  • Comfort with taking initiative to meeting new people and making new connections

  • Served as Queer Crush Captain for 3+ months

  • Experience with strategic outreach to build community partnerships

 

Time commitment: 1-3 hours per month

ADVOCATE, OTHER AREAS

Seeking individuals who share our mission

Queer Crush Climbing is about creating safe and inclusive climbing spaces for those who are diverse in their gender, romantic, and sexual orientations. We empower Queer, Trans, Black, Indigenous, and People of Color members of all abilities to seek healing, health, community and connect with the land through the art and sport of climbing.

 

Responsibilities

Lead in one of the following advocacy areas: 

  • Land Acknowledgements

  • Outreach, Partnerships & Expansion

Preferred Experience

  • Self-starter who is comfortable working on their own and can work collaboratively in a small team.

  • Lived experience with the powerful and transformative effects of rock climbing.

  • Familiarity with the value that affinity spaces provide for queer people.

Time commitment: 1-4 hours per month
